My work follows a fleeting moment, a cherished second of emotion. Sitting on the kitchen counter drinking the first coffee of the day, whilst my sister tells me stories of her travels. This moment will last in all the time before my coffee gets cold. I loved that book, the first two chapters, but after that my mind drifted with the mundanity of it. My time with that book was brief, like a summer fling. Blooming in the spring and fading in the late summer. Though it is sad, these ephemerel memories fall into my work. And to get over the heartbreak? I was inspired to stay out all day and all night until the sun rose the next morning, walking down cobbled streets with my best friends, in a city unknown and unperceiving. This moment is the one I wish I could paint. But at the end of the summer, I found myself in my new flat with different women, with a new coffee and dusty windows, with time before it gets cold.
