Making a 24 hour comic

Over the last few weeks, I have been making my own 24 hour comic. The rule of 24 hour comics is that you can only spend 24 hours drawing it- therefore a lot of pre-planning is involved in the project. I started out by making a brief storyboard and mind-map and then went from there.

This blog post is to explore and present the comic I produced during this project.

Finished comic

My plan was to create a story about a character that goes through a life changing realisation- or epiphany.

Of course, as often happens in my creative life, I ended up basing it loosely off my own experience.

The comic slowly evolved into this eclectic and surreal exploration into a creative realisation. Using simple settings like supermarkets and art fairs.

First page

Colour was so important in my comic. I decided from the beginning that I wanted to convey the change in the character’s mindset through the changes in the colour palette.

Comparing the first page (seen above) with a later page (seen below) we can see how important the colour is in expressing mood. The brighter, warmer colours compliment the positive and hopeful tone within the dialogue later in the comic. Whereas the colder tones help to express the emptiness the character feels at the beginning.

I guess after taking about the process of making this, I should share it with you now in full.

As always, thanks for reading!
